Our Goat Herd

We breed both Boer and Savanna goats to complement our cattle herds. While our cattle seek out primarily grass and clover, our goats would rather browse woody brush, poison ivy, and chicory. The more difficult to eat, the more they prefer it! We practice both pasture breeding and artificial insemination with our goats. Recently we started ultra-sounding pregnancies to better determine feeding groups. We've developed a culling protocol to select for lower management, highly parasite resistant does on a primarily grain free ration. Collecting birth, 30 day, 90 day, and mature weights help us decide what genetics are truly performing best with our management style. We ask a lot more from our does than our cows, so finding and replicating our best maternal lines is even more important. Johnes, CAE, and CL tested free herd.
